Our Verdict

You can watch every UEFA Euro 2024 game for free on TVNZ+ in New Zealand. To access it from any country, including the United States, use our recommended VPN, ExpressVPN, and connect to a New Zealand server. Once you’re finished, cancel the VPN subscription within 30 days for a full refund.

In many countries you won’t be able to legally watch all Euro 2024 matches for free unless you use a VPN. In the US, for instance, you can watch them on FuboTV, which includes Fox Sports, but it costs $79.99 a month.

To avoid paying these high costs, many fans turn to illegal soccer streaming websites. We advise against this, since these sites are known to host malware and dangerous phishing scams. Research from cybersecurity company Webroot found that 92% of tested streaming sites contained malicious content.

Thankfully, we discovered that you can safely watch Euro 2024 for free on TVNZ+. The streaming service is geo-restricted to New Zealand, so you’ll need to use a virtual private network (VPN) to access it from outside the country.

VPN subscriptions can be expensive, but we’ve only recommended VPNs which guarantee refunds within a 30-day period, like ExpressVPN. This means you’ll be able to get your money back, in full, by the end of the tournament.

Sadly, our testing revealed that there are no 100% free VPNs that unblock TVNZ+ from overseas, due to a lack of a New Zealand server or an inability to bypass the service’s VPN blocks. As such, using a paid VPN with a refund guarantee is your best option.

How to Watch Euro 2024 for Free with a VPN

The only way to legally watch every UEFA Euro 2024 game for free from the US and many other countries, is to use a VPN in combination with TVNZ+.

It’s a simple process, but the exact steps can vary depending on your preferred device. Use the links below to jump to the instructions for your setup:

To avoid paying anything whatsoever, you must cancel your VPN subscription within 30 days for a full refund. As this period of time matches the length of the tournament, you only need to do this once.

That said, if you need to extend your free trial, you can cancel the VPN subscription and then sign up again with a different email for an additional 30 days.

We recommend you do this instead of downloading a free VPN, as they often come with a data cap which limits how many matches you can watch. Moreover, free VPNs rarely provide a server in New Zealand which is necessary for unblocking TVNZ+.

Desktop & Laptop (Windows & macOS)

It’s straightforward to start watching Euro 2024 on your PC or laptop. You just need to connect to a VPN, open TVNZ+ in your browser, and begin streaming.

Here’s how to get a VPN to watch Euro 2024 matches for free on desktop:

  1. Subscribe to a reputable VPN that has servers in New Zealand: We recommend ExpressVPN due to its fast streaming speeds and 30-day refund policy.
  2. Download and install the VPN: Go to the VPN’s website and locate the ‘Download VPN’ prompt.
  3. Open the VPN and connect to a New Zealand server: You’ll need a New Zealand IP address to unblock TVNZ+.
  4. Go to TVNZ+ and create a free account: Click ‘Login’ in the top-right corner and then ‘Sign up now’. Once prompted, enter your account details and click ‘Sign me up’.
  5. Skip through account setup: TVNZ+ will ask you to select programmes you’re interested in but you can scroll down and click ‘No Thanks’ to skip this. You can do this for the following steps, too.
  6. Verify your email address: Follow the instructions on screen to verify your account.
  7. Select the match you want to stream: Click ‘Sports’ on the top navigation bar and then ‘Football’. All of the timings for each program are formatted as New Zealand Start Time (NZST).
  8. Request a refund from the VPN: Once you’ve finished watching Euro 2024, contact the VPN service for a full refund.
Streaming Euro 2024 on TVNZ+ with ExpressVPN

We found it easy to use TVNZ+’s desktop website and start streaming Euro 2024 games.

Mobile (iOS & Android)

Although you can download the TVNZ+ mobile app in the US, it uses your timezone to verify your real location. To bypass this, you’ll need to access TVNZ+ through your mobile browser instead.

Here’s how to stream Euro 2024 for free using a VPN on mobile:

  1. Get a VPN that provides servers in New Zealand and unblocks TVNZ+: Out of the few VPNs that work with TVNZ+, we recommend ExpressVPN for its streaming performance and intuitive mobile apps.
  2. Download the VPN onto your mobile device: You can do this directly from the App Store on iOS or the Google Play Store on Android.
  3. Open the VPN app and connect to New Zealand: This will assign you a New Zealand IP address which is needed for TVNZ+.
  4. Open your browser on mobile and search for TVNZ+: This works for Safari on iOS and Google Chrome on Android.
  5. Create an account on TVNZ+: Tap the hamburger menu in the top-left and then ‘Login’, followed by ‘Sign up now’. Enter your personal details and tap ‘sign me up’.
  6. Skip through account setup: TVNZ+ will ask you to select shows you’re interested in but you can scroll down and tap ‘No Thanks’ to skip this. You can do this for the following steps, too.
  7. Verify your email address: Follow the instructions on screen to verify your account.
  8. Choose the match you want to stream: Tap the hamburger menu and then expand the drop down menu next to ‘Sport’. Tap ‘Football’ and find your match.
  9. Request a refund from the VPN: Once you’ve finished watching Euro 2024, contact the VPN service for a full refund.
Streaming Euro 2024 via TVNZ+ in our mobile browser

You can stream Euro 2024 matches on TVNZ+ through your mobile browser.

Fire TV & Android TV

Though TVNZ+ provides apps for Fire TV and Android TV, it automatically locks your location to your timezone.

Instead, you’ll need to access TVNZ+ through a web browser on these streaming devices.

This method assumes you’ve already created a free account with TVNZ+ on PC or mobile. If you’re unsure how to do this, read our previous instructions.

Here’s how to stream Euro 2024 matches on Fire TV and Android TV using a VPN:

  1. On your PC or mobile device, sign up to TVNZ+: Go to its website, select ‘Login’, then ‘Sign up now’, and follow the onscreen instructions.
  2. On your PC or mobile device, subscribe to a VPN service that works with TVNZ+: ExpressVPN and Surfshark are both excellent options with well-designed apps for streaming devices.
  3. Download and open the app from the Amazon Appstore or Google Play Store.
  4. Connect to a VPN server in New Zealand.
  5. Open a web browser on your streaming device: On Fire TV, you can use the pre-installed Silk Browser. Android TV doesn’t come with a browser, so we suggest downloading the BrowseHere app from Google Play.
  6. Search for TVNZ+ and sign into your account.
  7. Choose the match you want to stream: To do this, select ‘Live’ and then ‘Football’.
  8. Request a refund from the VPN: Once you’ve finished watching Euro 2024, contact the VPN service for a full refund.

You can use your streaming device’s browser to access Euro 2024 matches on TVNZ+.

Roku, LG & Samsung Smart TVs

For other popular streaming devices, it’s significantly harder to watch TVNZ+ from overseas. Depending on the platform, this can be due to an unavailable TVNZ+ app, a lack of native VPN app support, an issue with region-locking, or all three.

To bypass most of these issues you can cast TVNZ+ from an iOS device to your streaming device using AirPlay. However, you’ll still need the destination device to be connected to a VPN for this to work.

Here’s how to watch Euro 2024 games on AirPlay-enabled streaming devices:

  1. Subscribe to a VPN that has New Zealand servers and unblocks TVNZ+: For this method, we suggest ExpressVPN.
  2. Download the VPN onto your Windows PC or laptop.
  3. Create a VPN hotspot.
    1. Enable hotspot: Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Mobile hotspot and toggle to On.
    2. Make a note of your hotspot’s network name and password.
    3. Navigate to adapter settings: Return to Network & Internet and go to Status > Change adapter options.
    4. Adjust your VPN’s adapter: Right-click your VPN’s TAP adapter and select Properties > Sharing tab and tick the box ‘Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s internet connection.
    5. Configure your hotspot: From the drop-down menu under Home networking connection: select Local Area Connection* and then OK to confirm.
    6. Open the VPN app and connect to New Zealand.
  4. Connect your streaming device to the VPN hotspot: Go to your device’s network settings and connect to your hotspot using the credentials from Step 3b.
  5. Connect your iOS device to the VPN hotspot: Go to Settings > Wi-Fi and connect using the login details from Step 3b.
  6. Open your mobile browser and search for TVNZ+.
  7. Create an account on TVNZ+: Tap the hamburger menu in the top-left and then ‘Login’, followed by ‘Sign up now’. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete account setup.
  8. Choose a Euro 2024 game to stream: Tap the hamburger menu and then expand the drop down menu next to ‘Sport’. Tap ‘Football’ and find your match.
  9. Put the video into full-screen mode and tap the AirPlay icon: You can find the AirPlay button at the top-left of your screen.
  10. Select the name of your streaming device from the list of options: If this doesn’t work, double check that your streaming device is still connected to the VPN hotspot.

Apple TV

If you’re using Apple TV, you can avoid using a hotspot entirely as the platform supports native VPN apps.

Here’s how to watch Euro 2024 for free on Apple TV using AirPlay:

  1. Sign up to a VPN that has a tvOS app and works reliably with TVNZ+: We suggest ExpressVPN or NordVPN.
  2. Download and install the app from the Apple TV’s App Store.
  3. Open the app and connect to New Zealand.
  4. Download the same VPN on your iOS device and connect to New Zealand.
  5. Open your mobile browser and search for TVNZ+.
  6. Create an account on TVNZ+: Tap the hamburger menu in the top-left and then ‘Login’, followed by ‘Sign up now’. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete account setup.
  7. Choose a Euro 2024 game to stream: Tap the hamburger menu and then expand the drop down menu next to ‘Sport’. Tap ‘Football’ and find your match.
  8. Put the video into full-screen mode and tap the AirPlay icon: You can find the AirPlay button at the top-left of your screen.
  9. Select your Apple TV device from the list of options.

Why TVNZ+ Is the Best Choice for Watching Euro 2024

Up to this point, we’ve detailed how to watch Euro 2024 on TVNZ+ with a VPN. We’ve highlighted this service as it’s the only 100% free and legitimate streaming service to show every match with English commentary.

However, using a VPN does provide other options for watching Euro 2024. BBC iPlayer and ITVX broadcast 50% of the matches each in the UK, for example.

If you’re in the US, you can also watch Euro 2024 games without a VPN by subscribing to any cable plan with Fox Sports in its package. Fox Sports covers every game, apart from five matches exclusive to Fubo, but its plan starts from $79.99 a month.

You can also subscribe to Fubo, which has Fox Sports, to cover all bases but the fee remains the same.

You can compare these alternatives to TVNZ+ in the table below:

TVNZ+ BBC iPlayer ITVX Fox Sports FuboTV
IP Address Location Required New Zealand UK UK US US
Uefa Euro 2024 Coverage All (51 matches) 50% and the final (26 matches) 50% and the final (26 matches) 46 matches All (51 matches)
Monthly Subscription Price Free Free Free $79.99 $79.99
Commentary Language English English English English English
Video Resolution 720p (HD) 720p (HD) 720p (HD) 720p (HD) 720p (HD)

As the table above shows, TVNZ+ is the only service with full coverage of the Euros that doesn’t require a paid subscription.

For a streaming service closer to the US, you can alternate between BBC iPlayer and ITVX for free. However, ITVX’s app isn’t available in other countries and it can’t be accessed through a mobile browser, which limits you to desktop viewing only.

If you only want to watch a specific match, you could also sign up for Fubo’s 7-day free trial. As Fubo is available in the US, you won’t need to purchase a VPN either.

The Best VPNs for Watching Euro 2024

All of the free streaming services that broadcast Euro 2024 aren’t based in the US, so you’ll need a VPN to access them.

Summary: The Best VPNs for Euro 2024

Based on our testing, the best VPNs for streaming Euro 2024 matches are:

  1. ExpressVPN: Best VPN for Watching Euro 2024 Overall
  2. Surfshark: Best Cheap VPN for Streaming Euro Matches

Using these VPNs, we were able to consistently access every Euro 2024 match. We could always load the TVNZ+ website and our VPN connection was never detected by the service.

Both VPNs also have fast download speeds which ensured that our stream loaded in HD quality without any buffering.

Sadly, we couldn’t find a free VPN that works with TVNZ+. Most free VPN services don’t have a server in New Zealand and we found that VPNs generally struggled with TVNZ+. Even highly-rated paid VPNs, like CyberGhost and IPVanish, failed to unblock TVNZ+.

That said, ExpressVPN and Surfshark can be used for free by taking advantage of their 30-day money-back guarantees.

Fast download speeds connecting to New Zealand Expensive

Beginner-friendly apps

ExpressVPN is the best VPN for watching Euro 2024 for free. It successfully unblocks TVNZ+, streams in HD quality, and has user-friendly apps for every device.

Unblocking TVNZ+

ExpressVPN consistently unblocked TVNZ+, unlike PrivateVPN which was detected on occasion. In each instance, the livestream loaded almost immediately in maximum video quality, whereas the stream lagged with Windscribe and was outright blocked with Hotspot Shield.

Using ExpressVPN to stream Euro 2024 matches on TVNZ+.

ExpressVPN performed the best overall at unblocking TVNZ+.

While ExpressVPN only displays a single New Zealand server location, it always assigned us an IP address that worked with TVNZ+.

This resulted in a seamless streaming experience, without disruption.

New Zealand Server Network

ExpressVPN provides New Zealand IP addresses from Auckland. Its customer support were unable to disclose an exact number of servers but we were never assigned the same IP address in over 6 months of testing.

As such, you’ll always have a compatible New Zealand server to connect to.

Download Speeds

While connecting to an ExpressVPN server in Oceania, we recorded a download speed loss of (17%. For this distance, this is an exceptional result and ensures your speeds are more than fast enough for HD streaming.

To maximize your download speeds, we suggest you use ExpressVPN’s default Lightway protocol.

Interface & Device Compatibility

ExpressVPN provides easy-to-use apps for every major platform, including Windows, iOS, Android, and Fire TV. It’s also the only VPN with a dedicated app for routers, making it easy to use the VPN on every device.

Pricing & Free Access

ExpressVPN’s pricing plans are expensive, costing $12.95 when paid monthly and $6.67/mo on a 15-month plan.

Even so, the VPN offers a 30-day money-back guarantee which can be easily redeemed. In our experience, we received a full refund within five working days of contacting customer support.

If you prefer not to pay anything upfront, you can use ExpressVPN’s free trial on iOS and Android, but this only lasts seven days.

2. Surfshark: Best Cheap VPN for Streaming Euro 2024

Surfshark's mobile VPN apps for Android and iOS

Pros Cons
Reliably unblocks TVNZ+ Smart DNS tool doesn’t work with TVNZ+
Fast download speeds with no buffering Expensive, if paid monthly
Auckland server location
Free New Zealand server for 37 days
Only $2.29 per month on its 26 month plan.

Surfshark is an excellent option for streaming Euro 2024. It reliably unblocks TVNZ+ and comes with a generous money-back guarantee that covers the full tournament.

Unblocking TVNZ+

Surfshark successfully bypassed TVNZ+’s geo-restrictions. While we were never blocked from accessing the website, it sometimes took a few seconds to render the home page fully.

Streaming Euro 2024 on TVNZ+ with Surfshark

We didn’t notice any frame rate drops while streaming with Surfshark.

Using Surfshark, the live match feed loaded instantly in our browser and we didn’t experience any buffering or drops in video resolution.

New Zealand Server Network

Surfshark provides an undisclosed number of New Zealand IP addresses from three VPN servers in Auckland.

Despite the limited number of servers, we were always assigned a new IP address upon connecting. This assures us that you’ll always have a server available to connect to, even during peak times.

Download Speeds

We registered a download speed loss of (21% when connecting to a Surfshark server in Oceania.

This is fast enough for HD streaming and our experience of testing Surfshark with TVNZ+ confirms this.

Interface & Device Compatibility

Surfshark’s apps are easy to use, but their many features may be intimidating to new users. However, you can ignore most of these settings and simply connect to a New Zealand server.

Surfshark has dedicated apps for most major platforms, including Fire TV, Windows, Android, and iOS. It doesn’t have a router app though, so you’ll need to use AirPlay for devices that don’t support VPN apps.

Pricing & Free Access

Surfshark provides excellent value for money on its longer-term plans. It costs just $2.29/mo over a 26 month period, which is $4 dollars less than ExpressVPN.

You can also combine its 7-day free trial on mobile with its 30-day money-back guarantee for 37 days of free usage. It’s important to note that this 30-day refund only applies to purchases made via the Google Play Store or Surfshark’s website.

Popular VPNs That Didn’t Make the Cut

Many of the VPNs we tested were unable to unblock TVNZ+, including paid services such as Private Internet Access and Proton VPN. Others simply lacked a New Zealand server location, making it impossible to test them.

TVNZ error code caused by CyberGhost

Many top-rated VPNs, like CyberGhost, were unable to access TVNZ+.

This was especially an issue with free VPNs. Aside from Urban VPN, which is too unsafe to use, we couldn’t find any free VPNs with a server in New Zealand.

In the table below, you can see a selection of the VPNs we analyzed, alongside our reasons for their exclusion:
