The Bottom Line

If you’ve never used a VPN before, CyberGhost is a great place to start. Its apps are purposefully designed for simplicity and won’t overwhelm you with complex settings. With a variety of short-term free trials and a 45-day money-back guarantee, it’s also one of the easiest VPNs to test drive. More experienced users may find its app interface a bit dated, its speeds slower than big-name rivals, and its advanced security features lacking, but it’s still a solid, dependable all-rounder.

We’ve reviewed CyberGhost for several years now and our thoughts largely remain the same: it’s a good, but not great VPN. There’s very little you can’t do with it, and it meets all our standard expectations from a VPN service, yet it lacks the wow-factor needed to stand out.

We put this down to its infrequent release of new features, which has caused the VPN to stagnate and feel slightly dated compared to its rivals. In some respects, this works in the VPN’s favor since the lack of clutter makes it easier for beginners.

It also requires minimal commitment to start using since it offers a 24-hour free trial on PC (no card details needed), as well as 3-day and 7-day free trials on Android and iOS respectively. If you sign up to a 6-month or 2-year subscription, the VPN also offers a full refund within 45 days of requesting.

Overall, while CyberGhost is a solid choice, we can’t help feeling it has the potential to be much more. Adding extra features like multi-hop, more consistent speeds, and a modern app design would transform it into a top tier VPN.
